Innovative technology can reduce CO2 in buildings

GAIA Wood Technology has created an innovative solution where wood is impregnated using frequencies rather than vacuum and pressure alone. This increases the liquid uptake and thus the durability, quality and fire safety of the wood, depending on the choice of impregnation liquid.

The solution can contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and reaching the construction industry’s climate goals. With the help of the Danish Technological Institute and DBI, they have had their technology validated and tested through a knowledge bridge project.


Innovative technology to boost construction’s circular agenda

The construction industry accounts for approximately 40% of global CO2 emissions, which mainly originate from building materials and their construction. One way to reduce CO2 emissions is to use more wood in construction. However, wood is often avoided because its fire performance is not as good as concrete and steel, for example.

GAIA Wood Technology has created an innovative solution to this problem. By impregnating wood in a new way using frequencies, the durability of wood can be significantly increased while also increasing its sustainability potential. The technology can even be applied to recycled wood, which can help with the circular agenda of construction and the development of GAIA Wood:

Greater utilization of wood as a building material

Together with the Danish Technological Institute and the Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology, GAIA Wood Technology has had their technology verified and tested through a knowledge bridge project, so that their method can better document the fire safety and penetration of impregnation liquids.

The technology will contribute to a higher degree of utilization of wood as a material, where the use of local wood is also an option, which will significantly reduce the CO2 emissions of buildings.


The project has made it easier to establish crucial relationships with partners who have a common interest in making it succeed – Jeespeer Dalgaard, CEO.

Moving forward

Ultimately, the technology could be the first to impregnate all types of wood on the market. The next step for GAIA Wood Technology is for their technology to be offered to e.g. sawmills and other wood industries.

The Knowledge Bridge project ran from September 2021 to December 2022 and was granted DKK 400,000 by the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science. The partners in the project were: Gaia Wood Technology ApS, BURNBLOCK ApS, Danish Technological Institute, Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology.
