Sorting and recycling of textile waste

Challenge:

The purpose of the project was to develop and mature pre-sorting and recycling technologies in a collaboration along the value chain. The market for the recycling of textiles was at this time being built up, and it was important to ensure the interaction between the various links in the value chain in order to be able to effectively create profitable utilization of textile waste.

Solution:

The project ran in two development tracks, focusing on different issues related to the construction of a value chain for pre-sorting and recycling of textiles. To ensure efficient and targeted development in the two tracks, there was close dialogue and knowledge transfer between the project’s partners. This ensured that output materials met the requirements for input materials in the next stage of the value chain. This took place within the project group but also extended beyond the project’s partners.

Effect:

Through the project, TechKnow has gained insight and knowledge about the further development of their facility. The textile waste fraction has been tested and concentrated from 85% to 92%. In addition, the partners have investigated how the customers’ requirements for dry textiles can be met using UV light. Through the project, HAACK Recycling has received sparring and help for the development of their products from the Danish Technological Institute. This has resulted in one product on the market. An acoustic deco module that has been evaluated so that it meets the customer’s requirements. In addition, the Danish Technological Institute has given HAACK Recycling the knowledge and network for the further development of another filling product, so that it does not downcycle degraded textile residues.
