GREENTUR – Sustainable tourism to reduce singleuse packaging in San André

A Circular Solution to Marine Pollution and Waste Reduction

The project addresses the environmental challenges of San Andres by reducing waste generation and marine pollution through the implementation of a returnable cup system, through a sustainable and circular approach to packaging. GREENTUR also supports Colombia’s goals of conserving the environment, reducing waste and promoting sustainable economic growth.

GREENTUR is developed through cooperation between: Clean, Denmark’s national water and environment cluster, which drives the green transition of Danish companies internationally; Kleen Hub, the innovator of the TAP&REUSE™ system, which paves the way for a reusable future in packaging; ACOTUR, the Colombian Association of Responsible Tourism, which promotes sustainable tourism practices; and INVEMAR, the Colombian Institute of Marine and Coastal Research, which enhances environmental research and management of ocean ecosystems.

The purpose of the project

The purpose is to reduce waste generation and marine pollution through the implementation of a returnable cup system in San Andres. By embracing a sustainable and circular approach to packaging, GREENTUR supports Colombia’s goals of conserving the environment, reducing waste, and promoting sustainable economic growth. Additionally, the project aligns with Colombia’s National Development Plan, which emphasizes the significance of sustainable production and consumption patterns and the national legislation on single- use plastics (Law 1973 of 2019) by providing an alternative to these materiels.

The implementation of KleenHub’s system has the potential to stimulate local entrepreneurship, create job opportunities, and boost the tourism sector in San Andres, thereby contributing to the economic and social well-being ofthe region. Ultimately, the project serves as a blueprint for other regions in Colombia to adopt sustainable practices, with the aim of creating a more environmentally friendly and prosperous future.
