Extending the lifetime of white goods

S.A.I. Denmark, AKF Holding, and DEAS have joined forces to create concrete, circular solutions to extend the lifetime of existing white goods instead of just focusing on new purchases. They will actively contribute to promoting a more circular handling of white goods in the rental sector by extending the lifetime of products.

The overall goal of the project is to establish an innovative value chain collaboration. It will develop, implement, and scale circular initiatives to extend the lifetime of white goods in the rental sector. The goal is to increase the average lifetime from the current 6-8 years to 10-12 years. This will result in a significant reduction of resource consumption and CO2 emissions.

Durable white goods in the Rental Sector.

So far, the value chain in the rental sector has been linear from manufacturer to consumer and then disposal. The collaboration will promote sustainable choices using a digital tool, Ecovalg. The Ecovalg tool allows all actors in the value chain, from landlords to tenants, to make informed choices that prioritize repair over early replacement.

The project will also include a qualitative study of the behavior of both tenants and landlords. This will be done to understand decision-making processes and develop behavior change strategies, including nudging measures, that promote maintenance and repair of white goods.

Through collaboration with suppliers, landlords, administrators and research institutions, such as the Danish Technological Institute, the project will create a circular value chain where white goods are used longer, supporting both economic and environmental goals.
