NxPAS: Innovative CO₂ Measurement for CCUS Plants

The demand for on-site multi-gas and CO₂ analysis instruments in carbon capture systems, hydrogen production, and flue gas monitoring is growing rapidly. Accurate measurement of emissions and gas quality during different phases of the CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) process is essential. With support from Clean, the startup NxPAS ApS has developed a product that effectively measures and analyzes gas components.
NxPAS is a Copenhagen-based instrumentation SME with expertise in laser technology and chemistry. Their solution offers real-time monitoring with high sensitivity, enabling the detection of various gases. The analyzer is both innovative and modular, allowing customization for different users:
Our solutions can be adapted to customers depending on their requirements for gas analysis. The green industry is new and highly competitive, so we focus on developing tailored solutions – Paul Feng, Ph.D., CEO
Modern Gas Analyzer for CCUS and Green Fuels
Multi-gas measurement plays a key role in the effectiveness of carbon capture and green fuel applications. NxPAS uses infrared light to identify molecular fingerprints and calculate gas concentrations. In addition to advanced hardware, the instrument is fully digitalized and provides fast data streaming.
They say you need to measure your target before you can control it – and that’s exactly what our gas analyzer solution does – Paul Feng, NxPAS
Through an innovation partnership, NxPAS collaborated with a Danish SME partner and a GTS institute to develop the product. The SME supplied opto-mechanical components manufactured using high-quality Danish CNC machining. The project demonstrated a fast-paced, closed-loop development cycle within the local Danish supply chain.
Funding Boosted Innovation
One year ago, NxPAS received approval for an innovation partnership through Clean, supporting the advancement of product development. With the funding, NxPAS built a strong network and developed several prototype versions. The team presented their instrument rack at the CCUS and Hydrogen EXPO in Hamburg in October 2024, where it drew attention from leading experts in the field.
The prototype received significant interest, and NxPAS gained valuable insights and sales leads that helped the team further refine both the solution and their business strategy.
It helped us dive deeper into our measurement solutions for key international customers. The Hamburg fair gave us a strong push in both innovation and sales – NxPAS
The project delivered impressive results, benefiting both partners and their target markets. NxPAS’ technology advanced to a higher TRL level and is now operating at a pioneer customer site. The team continues to work hard to drive business development forward.
The Innovations partnership was co-funded by the European Union and The Danish Board of Business Development
