Is your company looking to better understand and document its environmental impact?
The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) now offers companies the opportunity to have a life-cycle assessment (LCA) conducted, with a 20% discount available to Clean members.

An LCA provides you with a solid data foundation for reducing your environmental impact, prioritizing investments, and strengthening your sustainability profile.

What is an LCA—and why is it important?

A life cycle assessment (LCA) maps the environmental impact of a product or technology throughout its entire life cycle—from raw materials to production, use, and disposal. (In this course, we do not deal with calculations for services, but only for products and systems (technologies).

This gives you insight into:

  • Where the greatest environmental impacts occur
  • How you can reduce resource consumption and your carbon footprint
  • Where optimizing your solution provides the most value

Experience from specific cases shows, for example, that both material selection and energy consumption during the use phase are often decisive for the overall climate footprint.

What does your company get?

When you participate in DTU’s LCA program, you get:

  • An LCA conducted in accordance with the ISO 14044 standard
  • An analysis based on the European Commission’s ILCD guidelines
  • A comparison of scenarios and alternatives
  • A hotspot analysis identifying the greatest environmental impacts
  • Concrete recommendations for improvements and eco-design

The LCA is conducted by 4–5 master’s students specializing in the field, under the guidance of DTU experts. The students spend approximately 1,000 hours on the analysis.

How do I participate?

  • Case period: September – December 2026
  • Confidentiality: 100% confidential (NDA will be signed)
  • Price:
    – DKK 25,000 for companies
    – DKK 10,000 for micro-enterprises
  • Clean members receive a 20% discount
  • Submission deadline: May 31, 2026

What can an LCA be used for in reality?

An LCA isn’t just a piece of documentation—it’s an active decision-making tool.

It can be used to:

  • Support product development and innovation
  • Prioritize investments in the most effective measures
  • Demonstrate sustainability to customers and regulatory authorities
  • Increase transparency and credibility in your communications
