Biochar’s ability to absorb various substances, including pesticides, holds significant implications for both environmental sustainability and agricultural practices. But what are the positive and negative effects of this adsorption? How does it impact farmers, ecosystems, and remediation efforts?

This event brings together researchers, industry professionals, and farmers to explore existing knowledge and identify areas for further research and innovation. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to visit the Hydrothermal Carbonization (HTC) Lab Unit at AU Viborg to learn about the unique properties of HTC carbon and how they compare to traditional biochar regarding adsorption capabilities.

Programme

10.00 – Coffee and Welcome

10.15 – From Soil to Water: Biochar’s Impact on Pesticide Fate and Its Potential in Environmental Remediation
Speaker: Jingyu Wang, Aarhus University, Department of Agroecology

11.00 – Biochar and the Inhibition of Pesticide Application: A Producer and Farmer’s Perspective
Speaker: Henrik Nørskov Pedersen, Stiesdal

11.30 – Discussion: Research and Innovation Needs

11.50 – Funding Opportunities within Food & BioCluster Denmark
Speaker: Elena Skytte Sørensen, FBCD

12.00 – Lunch

13.00 – Visit to the HTC Lab Facility at AU Viborg
Led by Aidan Mark Smith, AU Engineering
Discussion: Comparing HTC Carbon and Biochar for Adsorption Properties

14.00 – Coffee and Networking

Why Participate?

This event is an opportunity for researchers, industry professionals, and practitioners to gain insights into the current understanding of biochar’s adsorption properties and their implications, while identifying opportunities for further research.

The event is co-funded by the European Union and The Danish Board of Business Development.
