Rock Flour Company receives €6.1 million
Rock flour becomes “climate mud” with the power to remove CO₂
Rock Flour Company calls it “magic mud” – others call it “climate mud”. It’s Greenland’s glacial rock flour (GRF): a natural mineral powder that can improve soil health and remove CO₂.²
It’s not every day that a Greenlandic natural material makes the front page of Børsen.⁵ But it makes sense here: Rock Flour Company is scaling a simple idea with great impact – using Greenland’s GRF. With a €6.1 million seed round, the company now has the strength to take its next big step.¹
From research to business
Rock Flour is built on decades of research into glacial rock flour and was founded in 2023 by Professor Minik Rosing and 2degrees (by Mikkel Bülow-Lehnsby). Since then, the team has grown, partnerships have strengthened, and the first field results are in place. The new capital round is led by EIFO and Novo Holdings with participation from Nalik Ventures, SISA and Carbon Drawdown Initiative, as well as continued support from 2degrees, The Footprint Firm, and Planetary Impact Ventures.⁴
GRF is a natural, ultra-fine mineral powder created by the movement of the Greenland Ice Sheet. When spread on fields, it releases nutrients, improves soil health, and reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers. Through “enhanced weathering,” it also binds CO₂ as bicarbonate for a very long time. Field trials in both Denmark and Ghana show documented agronomic benefits alongside CO₂ uptake.³
From pilots to commercial operation
With this investment, Rock Flour is accelerating along four tracks:
• The first commercial GRF project in Greenland
• Long-term, meaningful commercial pilots (sales begin)
• Large-scale permitting
• Further R&D and technological maturation
This is where the company moves from promising trials to large-scale implementation.
Rock Flour represents a rare “triple win” for climate, soil, and production. The material is an abundant resource in Greenland – already “pre-crushed” by nature – allowing it to scale without the energy-intensive grinding required for other silicates.²
Rock Flour seeks to connect with agricultural actors, fertilizer and soil improvement suppliers, off-takers, and Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) buyers. Reach out to us at Clean, and we’ll help make the connection.
Member of Clean
At Clean, ideas turn into solutions because companies meet their next partner, test environment, and first customer. We connect across themes and help members engage in relevant projects, pilots, and partnerships.
Rock Flour Company has been a member of Clean since April 2024 and has already taken part in several of our initiatives.
In 2025, Rock Flour Company also joined Clean at TechBBQ – the Nordic region’s largest tech and innovation event.
They were among the participants in the knowledge bridge project “Spreading of Greenlandic rock flour in soil – investigation of the ideal distribution method” – a collaboration between companies and research institutions (The Danish Technological Institute and University of Copenhagen) focused on testing, documenting, and demonstrating environmental technology solutions. The project was approved as part of Eight new knowledge bridge projects for testing and demonstration of environmental technologies.
